However, those who desire to immigrate to Canada, to eventually become Canadian Citizens, can apply under one or more of the permanent residence programs should they have the required qualifications.
Permanent Residence Programs
Applicants under any of these categories become Permanent Residence of Canada.
Family Sponsorship
This program is for Permanent Residents or Canadian Citizen who wish to sponsor a member of their family to become a permanent resident of Canada.

This system enables you to immigrate to Canada under Federal Skilled Workers, Federal Skilled Trades, Canadian Experience Class or Provincial Nominee.

Enables temporary residents with Canadian work experience in providing care to children, elderly or people with medical needs, to become permanent residents.

Enables the applicant to immigrate by starting a business and creating jobs. The Province of Quebec has it own business immigration programs.

Atlantic Immigration Pilot
People could also immigrate under this program after graduating from a school or working in New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, or Newfoundland and Labrador.

Refugees and Asylum Seekers
Applicants under this category are forced to flee their countries because of a well-founded fear of persecution. They are not able to return home. They have seen or experienced many horrors. The Canadian refugee system has two main parts:
– The Refugee and Humanitarian Resettlement Program, for people who need protection from outside Canada and;
– The In-Canada Asylum Program for people making refugee protection claims from within Canada.

Temporary Residence Programs
Applicants under any of these categories remain foreign nationals, however they may qualify to become Permanent Residents of Canada if they meet certain conditions.
Study Permit/Visa
If you wish to study in Canada for more than six month you will need to apply for a study permit unless you are among the poeple who could study without a permit. You will also need to meet other criteria. The province of Quebec has its own specific requirements.
